What is Canada’s start up visa?

Start-up visa program targets innovative entrepreneurs and links them with private sector investors in Canada who will help establish their new business in Canada.

There are three types of private-sector investor:

• Angel investor
• Venture capital fund

What Are the Candidate Eligibility Requirements?

In order to qualify for a start-up visa, there are four major conditions that entrepreneurial applicants must meet:

• Having a qualifying business:

The entrepreneur applicants must have established a business in which each one holds at least 10% of the voting rights and up to five aspirants can apply together as owners. Moreover, all applicants and the designated investor organization must jointly hold more than 50% of the voting rights.

To obtain the Canadian permanent residency through this program, applicants must incorporate their business in Canada with active management of the foreign entrepreneurs.

• Commitment Certificate and Letter of Support from a designated entity.
• Sufficient unencumbered, available and transferable settlement funds.
• Proficiency in English or French at minimum Canadian Language Benchmark level 5.
